Coronavirus updates – for Catering and Retail customers

Our campus is now fully open to staff, students and external visitors. QMU is currently in Level 2 of the Scottish Governments coronavirus restrictions.

Starbucks, 1875 and Maggie's Cafe & Bar are also now all open and full details of their offerings and opening times can be found below.  There is also a small retail shop located in Maggie's and 1875 too.

Due to the COVID-19 Scottish Government guidelines around hospitality, it won’t feel quite the same when you visit our catering outlets on campus.  However, we do still have our friendly team of staff in all areas to guide you & keep you safe.

Please remember that we can only allow 2 households (up to 6 people) to sit together indoors and outdoors.  We must comply with this Scottish Government guidance and we ask for your support with this.

Catering & Retail Services aim to provide a broad range of high quality, value for money food services and is provided by QMU's catering services partner BaxterStorey.

As well as staff and students, the local community are very welcome to take advantage of our catering and retail outlets.

1875 Restaurant

1875 is located in the main academic building offering a lunch service.  

Opening Hours (Semester 1):

  • Open Monday to Friday:  11.15am – 2.30pm

All your favourite lunches, soups, salads and sandwiches available.

1875 will close for the festive period with the last day of operation being Friday 27th November.  

Starbucks Coffee Pod

Starbucks is located in the main academic building atrium offering a selection of drinks and snacks.

Opening Hours (Semester 1, from Tuesday 24th November)

  • Open Monday – Friday 8.30am until 7pm.
  • Click & Collect using the Round app.
  • Delivery service to the Starbucks spaces from Maggie’s. is available 11am - 9pm, 7 days a week.

Maggie’s Bar & Café

Maggie's (in the Students' Union) offers a full bar service complimented by a lunch and dinner service.  There is also a small retail shop selling a range of basic household commodities as well as confectionery and stationary.

Maggie's opening hours (Semester 1, from Tuesday 24th November)

Monday to Sunday 8.30am - 10.30pm outdoors and from 8.30am - 8pm indoors

  • We are asking our guests to please book in advance where ever possible and the latest times available are 7pm indoors and 9.30pm outdoors.
  • We will be offering breakfast, lunch, early evening meals, barista coffees, alcoholic & soft drinks and all the other goodies all day.
  • We also have our full shop selling essentials, treats and off-license options, takeaway options and delivery service.
  • Alcoholic beverages can only be served indoors alongside a main meal.  Alcohol may be consumed outdoors without a meal, however we ask that customers drink responsibly.
  • The maximum reservation time for indoor bookings is 1.5 hours, and 2 hours for outdoor bookings.
  • Unfortunately, we cannot accept bookings from anyone travelling from out with our Level 2 area.
  • A maximum of 6 people from 2 different households are allowed at any table.

University Retail Facilities

We have small retail outlets in both our 1875 servery area and in Maggie's.  

There is a wide variety of household items along with confectionery and stationary.

Vending Service

We have a number of vending machines that are available on campus. These are located on:

Level 1 (cold drinks, hot drinks & confectionery) in 1875 
Level 2 (hot beverages & confectionery) outside Lecture Theatre 2156
Level 3 (cold drinks & confectionery) outside the Halle Lecture Theatre

Monday - Sunday 8:00-17:00

*Outwith these hours accessible 24/7 with valid Student/Staff card only

Please note:  all vending machines accept Smartcards payments only

Hospitality Service (Meetings)

There is no Hospitality Service running due to COVID-19.  We hope to have this service up & running again soon.

  • All our catering outlets accept Smartcards, QR Code via the App, Apple Pay, Google Pay, contactless with no minimum spend required and cash payments from Students, Staff and Visitors to campus
  • Vending machines are located in 1875, Level 1, 2 & 3 in the main academic building accept Smartcard payments only
  • Vending machines in Accommodation and the Sports Department accept cash only

QMU Smart Cards

  • Departmental Hospitality Cards can be requested by Budget Holders and used to make purchases in the Catering & Retail Services Department.
  • Visitors who receive a Smartcard on arrival can load cash onto the card at the 2 loading kiosks and use the cards in all Catering outlets
