Scholarships and Funding

It is important to be aware of the costs involved in studying overseas and the possible avenues for funding as it allows you to plan in advance. It is essential to ensure you have organised funding prior to arriving in the UK.

Various scholarships are offered at postgraduate level. These include: international award schemes, university bursaries and grants provided by charities/trusts. Criteria and application procedures inevitably vary. In all cases, however, students are encouraged to apply for possible awards as early as possible; although applications for a few grants may be considered at any time, deadlines for most awards are invariably well in advance (ie several months beforehand).

Funding
There is a lot of competition for a limited amount of funding. The following information is suggested sources of funding. It must be noted that none of the following is guaranteed. Do not travel to the UK unless you are sure that you have the funds available to pay for your studies AND your living expenses, as it is extremely difficult to make funding arrangements once you have left your home country.

First stop for funding queries
1. The Ministry of Education or Education Department in your home country will have details of scholarship information for students who want to study overseas.
2. The British Council website is an excellent resource for information on funding. Alternatively visit your local British Council office.
3. The internet is a useful resource for possible sources of funding.

Application can be made by students who have received an offer of a place of study at the University. Applications can be downloaded here. Please note that the application deadline for 2011 is 5pm on 30 May 2011. If you wish to be considered for the early allocation of scholarships, your application should be with us no later than 5pm on 4 April 2011.

Santander Scholarships
Queen Margaret University is pleased to announce that a limited number of Santander Scholarships will be available in 2011, up to the value of £5,000. Applications can be made by students who have received an offer of a place of study at the University. Application forms can be downloaded here. The application deadline for 2011 is 5pm on 30 May 2011. Please note that if you have already applied for a QMU Scholarship, we will also consider you for a Santander Scholarship and vice versa - there is no need to re-apply or to apply for both.

Professor Barbara McPake, IIHD Director: “IIHD has benefitted greatly from the opportunity of expanding its work in Latin America and the Iberian Peninsula that the scholarships from Santander have provided. We know that the UK is an attractive destination for students from those areas, but the costs of studying here are often prohibitive. This assistance has enabled some extremely talented students to benefit from first class learning in an innovative interactive environment that they otherwise would have missed. ”
